The McMenimen Lab in the Chemistry Department at Mount Holyoke College has an opening for a full-time research technician in a protein biochemistry lab.  The primary goal of our lab is to investigate the protein-protein interactions that occur between small heat shock proteins and their substrates and to understand the underlying mechanisms of these interactions.  A variety of techniques are utilized including, general protein purification methods, nanoparticle bio-conjugation techniques, biophysical analysis, and basic cell culture techniques. The successful candidate will contribute to all aspects of the lab’s activities through independent research and providing support duties (ordering general supplies, general maintenance of laboratory equipment, making media, etc.).  This position would be ideal for a recent graduate looking to acquire expertise in protein biochemistry before attending graduate school.

Minimum qualifications are a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or related discipline; experience performing biochemical or chemical laboratory research is required. Preference will be given to candidates who are: knowledgeable about protein biochemistry; bioconjugation methods, nanoparticle characterization, and/or cell-based nanoparticle assays.

This position requires: willingness and enthusiasm to perform a broad spectrum of job duties, be detail-oriented and flexible, and an ability to work effectively as an individual and as a member of a team.  This is a two-year appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent upon funding.  The start date is May 1, 2017, with flexibility for an earlier or later date if necessary.
