Mount Holyoke College has two openings in its Dining Services Department for float cooks. The location will be either in our Blanchard Campus Center or in one of the residential dining halls. These positions are full time, 40 hours per week, academic year positions (September-May). Services may not be required when the college is not in session (fall mid semester break, Thanksgiving recess, December recess, January term, mid-semester spring break).
Float Cook: Assists in the cooking, preparation, serving, and cleaning in connection with any meal; sanitation of entire scope of food service areas, utensils, and equipment; assists with inventory and ordering; records amounts of food by using computer production sheets; distributes stock, grocery, produce and dairy orders; monitors student and regular staff in the absence of the Unit Manager or Chef Manager; and reports problems immediately to the supervisor.
Candidates should have a minimum of three years' experience in preparation of food in quantity in a college, high volume or quality restaurant setting; must be able to give direction and instruct others, and have the ability to perform in a satisfactory manner under pressure. Must be able to lift/move maximum of 50 pounds and be able to pass a pre-employment physical. Must have Food Protection Management certification or willingness to take a ServSafe class. Must be flexible in work assignments and hours; work well with students, staff and guests; be mature enough to work independently when necessary and have good written and oral communication skills. Basic computer skills are desirable.
