Mount Holyoke College has an immediate opening for an Accountant in its Office of the Comptroller.
The Accountant is responsible for assisting in carrying out the general accounting function of the College. Areas of responsibility include: tax reporting and withholding for foreign nationals, investment and endowment accounting, plant fund accounting, sales tax returns, account reconciliations and cash reconciliations. This position reports to the Accounting Manager – Financial and Tax Reporting.
The Accountant will prepare and file monthly sales tax returns; determine tax status of foreign nationals, advise on appropriate withholding, and prepare required filings; prepare schedules and working papers for the various College audits; perform monthly reconciliations of various balance sheet accounts, including certain cash accounts; prepare various monthly and year-end journal entries, and will work on other assigned projects.
We seek an individual who is able to work accurately under time pressures and deadlines, is detail oriented with good analytical and quantitative skills. Candidate should be able to handle multiple projects, have the ability to work well independently and as part of a team with willingness and ability to learn new technologies and other skills. Candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and have effective interpersonal skills.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in accounting or related field required; experience with micro and/or mainframe computer accounting applications; Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Access. Candidate will have two years (minimum) of general accounting experience, with experience in tax reporting for foreign nationals desirable. Experience with nonprofit accounting and Infor Lawson and/or OneSource Nonresident Alien Taxation software (Windstar) a plus.
