JOB PURPOSE:

  • The Benefits Administrator is liaison between our benefits offerings and our employees.  The successful candidate will
    • Effectively provide information and education to employees
    • Be an excellent communicator
    • Work independently as well as part of the HR team to deliver excellent customer service to our employees.

CORE DUTIES

  • Develop and maintain processes for proactive audit, monitoring and reporting of benefits programs
  • Proactively learn and stay current with regulatory changes as they pertain to employee benefits and assist with the integration of these regulations into the college’s benefits management practices
  • Processing of claims and resolution of problems for all benefits including: health insurance, dental insurance, life and long term disability insurance, flexible spending, and retirement
  • Provide assistance for employees preparing to retire (retirement plans, Medicare, health options, etc.)
  • Assist employees with application of college policies and procedures as they relate to the Staff Handbook and the Faculty Handbook.
  • Benefits orientation / briefings for new employees
  • Data entry for benefit enrollment and disenrollment on both the college’s HRIS system as well as vendor systems.
  • Calculate benefits costs and make adjustments as needed in HRIS system
  • Coordinate open enrollment activities and assist with benefits fair
  • Work as partner with Benefits Manager to develop and review effective employee benefits programs
  • Development of written and media materials for benefits education
  • Presentations – both in person and via webinar for employee orientation, HR training topics and other benefit and project related events.
  • Assisting employees with web time entry, leave entry, W-2 & 1095 retrieval and other pieces of self-service technology
  • Work on special employee engagement activities (recognition events, convocation, Mt. Day)
  • Assist other HR Office personnel with HR projects – Payroll, Front Desk, and Employee Relations as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • 3 or more years of experience administering and resolving participant issues for a variety of health & welfare benefits
  • Strong understanding of employment laws as they pertain to FMLA, ADA, MMLA, PPACA and Worker’s Compensation
  • 3 or more years of experience working in an environment that requires regular, direct face to face contact with participants
  • Proficient in word, excel
  • General Math skills
  • Ellucian Colleague knowledge a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects and ability to prioritize
  • Associate’s degree in relevant area or equivalent experience will be considered.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls.

  • Travel on campus to departments/buildings.
