The Leadership Giving Officer is an entry-level member of the College’s frontline Leadership Giving staff.  This position provides opportunity for either a career transition into fundraising, or for an experienced fundraiser in another field to develop skills in Leadership Giving and make immediate contributions. This fundraising professional will manage a portfolio of 150-200 Mount Holyoke College alumnae and parent donors and prospective donors, including Future Track donors, and will be responsible for designing and implementing identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.

The Leadership Giving Officer will travel frequently to engage these key members of the Mount Holyoke College community in conversations leading to increased expendable commitments and to six-figure (and potentially seven-figure) gifts. In the case of Future Track donors, the Leadership Giving Officer will lay the foundation for current engagement with and future generosity to Mount Holyoke College.  Reporting to the Executive Director of Leadership Giving, the Leadership Giving Officer will be an integral member of the College’s Leadership Giving team.  

This individual will play a vital role in the raising leadership-level Mount Holyoke expendable and endowment gifts in support of Mount Holyoke College’s upcoming campaign.  The Leadership Giving Officer will have opportunity to develop and be mentored in their skill as a major gift fundraiser. 

Takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College’s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

95% Fundraising

  • Manage a portfolio of 100-175 of rated Leadership Giving donors, prospective donors, and future track donors.
  • Strategize with the Executive Director for the design and implementation of their identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Frequent travel to engage these key members of the Mount Holyoke College community. Rate of prospect visitation to be determined in consultation with the Executive Director, within an average range of 10-15 face-to-face visits per month.
  • Secure leadership Mount Holyoke Fund and other expendable gifts from those not yet ready or able to make endowment-level gifts.
  • Take on increased responsibility and independence, and increased responsibility for more highly-rated prospects as skill increases
  • The ultimate closing of six- and seven-figure gifts in support of Mount Holyoke College’s established priorities will demonstrate career progress in the work of Leadership Giving. 

5% Performs other duties/functions as requested.

Internal-External Interaction/Communication

Daily interaction with College constituents, including colleagues and donors, as well as occasional interaction with the Board of Trustees, President, faculty, senior staff, and students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.

Experience

  • Two years’ experience working in a fundraising environment, or applicable and relevant experience in a related field.
  • Desire to develop skill as a major gift fundraiser.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and advance relationships strategically and proactively.
  • An unassailable sense of judgment and integrity.
  • Personal capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to travel 35-50% of the time to different areas of the country.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Night and weekend work occasionally required.

Environmental and Physical Demands

  • Visual – normal concentration; repetitive motions include hands, wrists, and fingers; lift, carry, push and pull 10 lbs.

Decision Making

  • The Leadership Giving Officer consults with the Executive Director to organize own work-flow in accordance with the priorities of donor cultivation and solicitation.

Supervision Exercised/Received

  • Reports to the Executive Director of Leadership Giving.  Moderate supervision and training received from supervisor. The Leadership Giving Officer does not supervise other personnel.
