Mount Holyoke College has an opening for a Custodial Supervisor of the Day Custodial Shift. The primary responsibilities of this position include planning, organizing and directly supervising 18 full and part time Custodians and Skilled Laborers. The Custodians are responsible for the cleaning of a significant number of the College’s Buildings. The Skilled Laborers are typically assigned floor maintenance responsibilities throughout Campus.
This position is a very much “working supervisor” position. In addition to cleaning responsibilities the Supervisor will oversee the College’s cleaning program and address issues related to building cleanliness and floor conditions – as well as addressing performance issues with team members. In support of the College’s cleaning program this position is responsible for training Custodians- directly or indirectly- in the College’s methods and use of tools; and for seeing to it that team members have appropriate equipment and supplies. As shifts in the responsibilities of the team change from one season to another, the Supervisor is expected to oversee those adjustments to the work assignments of various team members and to integrate additional help in the summer months into the cleaning and floor maintenance efforts.
This position will require, from time to time, overtime work as well as weekend and holiday work. Many of those supervised are essential to the College’s snow removal program. The Supervisor’s position is considered an essential position and the successful candidate will be required to report to work on those days when the College is closed for emergency reasons- typically, but not always, weather related. This position will be involved with snow shoveling, spreading sand and ice melt, and other duties related to the snow removal effort. This position will work with the Grounds Department Supervisor in the planning and organizing of the snow removal effort.
- The Supervisor must have a willingness to perform other tasks that may be assigned to him or her.
- This position reports to the Assistant Director of Facilities Management who is responsible for landscaping and cleaning service.
