The Office of Admission is seeking an admission coordinator who will support many facets of the fast-paced work of college admission. This person will work collaboratively with his or her colleagues, prospective students and their parents, high school guidance counselors, current MHC students, faculty and staff on campus, alumnae, and external vendors.
As a member of a multi-person administrative team, the successful candidate will participate and work in conjunction with fellow admission coordinator colleagues. Tasks include scheduling and confirming of admission officer recruitment visits to high schools and attendance at college fairs; arranging of off campus interviews between admission officers and prospective students; data entry of prospective student and applicant materials; verification of data imported electronically into the college’s student information system; fielding questions about MHC’s application process from the public via phone and email; and other duties as assigned. This person will spend a few hours each week in the Admission Office lobby, answering phones and greeting visitors in the office’s lobby when the primary and secondary receptionists are unavailable.
In addition to the duties outlined above, the successful candidate will play a large role in helping to organize campus-wide open houses for prospective students and high school guidance counselors. This person also may be involved in hiring, training and supervising three current students who work up to eight hours per week doing data entry and other office tasks.
The successful candidate will be highly organized, efficient, reliable, resourceful and adaptable in an environment with multiple priorities and systems. The ability to work as part of a team and to contribute to the positive dynamics of the office environment is essential.
An Associate’s degree (or higher), or the combination of education or experience, and at least three years of progressively responsible experience in administrative work is preferred. She or he will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, expert proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, mail merges and be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Further, she or he must be able to utilize documentation in conjunction with training to master processes; exercise good judgment; and utilize problem-solving skills. A sense of humor, cooperative spirit and flexibility are required characteristics of the successful candidate. Qualified candidates must be able to grasp a big-picture understanding of the demands and challenges of the Admission Office and be able to adjust their work to accommodate the varied circumstances of MHC’s diverse applicant pool appropriately.
This is a benefit-eligible position. The work week is from 8:30am-5:00pm, Monday through Friday. A limited amount of evening and weekend work is expected.
