The Film Studies Program at Mount Holyoke College invites applications for an innovation hire in Film and Media Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin July 2018. Innovation hires enable us to shape new directions in our curriculum.  Innovation hires begin as four-year contracts, but are budgeted as regular tenure-track lines and the process of faculty development and review is identical to those of tenure-track candidates, with reappointment review after three years. At this point, the curricular innovation itself is also reviewed. In the case of a successful reappointment and curricular innovation review, the innovation hire would convert to a tenure track line and proceed as if in the fourth year of a tenure track line

We seek candidates with wide-ranging knowledge of the history and theory of digital moving image media. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work addresses global frameworks and/or is at the intersection of critical race studies and media studies. We welcome applications from innovative scholars with a Ph.D in Media Studies or a related field. Experience in hybrid scholarly/creative practices will be an advantage. The demonstration of effective teaching and mentoring is required. This position will carry a 2/2 teaching load that will include introductory and intermediate courses that serve the evolving major broadly, as well as advanced courses in the applicant’s specialty. The successful applicant will also have some experience in program building, with interests in transforming a Film Studies Program with new curriculum in Media Studies and in creating cross-disciplinary conversations about visual culture at Mount Holyoke. The applicant should have a strong commitment to research and undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts college and a demonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.
