The Department of Theatre Arts at Mount Holyoke College invites applications for a full-time, visiting faculty member in Acting and Directing to begin fall 2018. This is a one-year teaching position, with competitive salary and benefits and with the possibility of renewal. We are interested in candidates who can teach a wide range of performance techniques from classical to experimental, and in candidates with a background in voice and speech and/or stage management. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in African-American, African, Asian-American, Asian, Latin American, or Middle Eastern theater.
The teaching load for this position is five courses per year. The successful candidate will teach acting courses at the introductory and advanced levels, direct a department production (counted as a course), and teach other courses according to departmental needs and the candidate’s specialty. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of strong teaching at the undergraduate level and experience mentoring students who are broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. The successful candidate will be expected to be on campus full time and should have their terminal degree in hand by the start of the contract period.
Applications must be made online at https://jobs.mtholyoke.edu/. Candidates will submit a cover letter, CV, links to their creative work, and three statements concerning (1) teaching philosophy, (2) creative and research interests, and (3) mentoring a diverse student body. Applicants should also arrange to have three letters of reference submitted on their behalf. We recommend early submission because electronic prompts to referees will be generated automatically (and letters of reference accepted) only after the completed application has been submitted. To be assured full consideration applications must be completed by January 15, 2018. Address questions to Sally Sutherland, Chair, Theatre Arts Steering Committee, at email@example.com.
