The Office of Communications and Marketing serves as the official voice of Mount Holyoke College to regional, state, national, and international media. The office also serves as the marketing and branding arm, elevating the College’s reputation and advancing the brand’s presence in the marketplace. The Office provides communication support to the entire Mount Holyoke campus while also being responsible for the oversight and management of the College’s digital presence, presidential communications, internal communications to faculty and staff, external communications to alumnae, parents, prospective students, prospective employees, and the media. The Office provides direction and leadership to various communications professionals across the campus while advising on communications policy with senior officers of the College.
This Digital Content Strategist develops and supports a broad array of digital content needs as a member of the Office of Communications and Marketing. Reporting to the Director of Web, the Digital Content Specialist provides day-to-day implementation and oversight of digital content across a variety of channels, with a particular focus on the College’s website. The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for developing and curating written and visual content, updating and editing content, and seeking out and generating compelling stories that capture attention and drive awareness while promoting the College’s brand. The Digital Content Specialist will keep abreast of trends in digital communications and technology, informing the team and our work accordingly.
The Digital Content Strategist also works closely with other members of the Communications and Marketing team to ensure that digital channels within the Office and throughout the campus are tightly synchronized and consistent with the College’s brand, mission and strategic plan, working closely with colleagues in the Advancement, Admission and other College departments to develop content that supports critical College initiatives. Measuring the effectiveness of digital content to inform future efforts will be of critical importance to the success of this role.
The Digital Content Strategist will also manage and supervise a group of 2 - 5 students who assist in generating and maintaining content.
2-4 years of relevant experience in communications Bachelor degree required, preferably in communications, marketing, journalism, or other related field Demonstrated innovation, creativity, flexibility, strategic thinking, and a willingness to push the boundaries of content development are necessary skills, as well as the ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment. Knowledge of Google Analytics and other analytic tools. Excellent editing, interviewing, and oral presentation skills Experience working within a content management system such as Wordpress or Drupal Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop). Demonstrated experience and interest in content creation/curation of platforms, web design, etc. Demonstrated ability to develop story ideas for multiple audiences across varied media Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills Graphic design, photography, and video production skills are a plus.
