The Equestrian Center at Mount Holyoke College seeks a Stable Manager on a full-time, year-round basis. The position is responsible for the administration of school and boarder horse programs, management of the stable staff, and is an integral part of the management team of the Equestrian Center.
The Stable Manager handles task and personnel management of stable assistant staff, including hiring, scheduling, and performance evaluation. When needed, this position also assists the stable staff. This individual supports the school and boarder programs by: administering routine and emergency first aid; scheduling and assisting with vaccination, worming, and corrective shoeing needs; maintaining saddlery and equipment; assigning horses to class schedules; facilitating reception and departure of boarders; and showing prospective students around the center. The Stable Manager is the primary “point person” to keep the Director and other members of the management appraised of all important information pertaining to the school horse and boarders programs. Opportunities exist for those interested in working on special projects. There is the possibility for the Stable Manager to board a horse at the Equestrian Center.
Qualified applicants should have exceptional organizational, interpersonal, personnel management, and equine management skills. Candidates must have at least 5 years related equine experience, 1 year direct management experience, computer proficiency in email, spreadsheet, and calendaring programs, and the ability to work with a wide variety of people (staff, management, vendors, students, boarders). The ideal candidate will have the structure to organize large quantities of tasks and items and create systems while maintaining the flexibility to change plans quickly.
