Mount Holyoke College has an opening for a full-time, 12-month Laboratory Manager in the Department of Biological Sciences.  The successful candidate will be in charge of laboratory preparation for two large core courses in cell and developmental biology, oversee shared equipment (autoclave, -80 freezers, CO2 gas, microscopes), help with general stockroom supplies, and be backup for animal care (including rodents).  Candidates with experience in solution preparation, molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and/or familiarity with plant biology are preferred.  Lab management involves the set-up and clean-up of daily teaching labs, and working closely with a team of professors, lab instructors, and student lab assistants.  This position would be ideal for a lab-oriented problem-solver, who would take joy in overseeing the mechanics of a large, busy, warm, well-functioning Biological Sciences department.

A strong candidate will be extremely organized, have strong communication skills, work well with others, and be self-motivated in a role that requires independence and carries much responsibility.  There is flexibility in how a workday will be organized, and the Laboratory Manager position may involve coming in after hours and/or on weekends.  Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree with a major in the natural sciences, and experience in independent research or as a laboratory technician a plus.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, with preference given to applications received prior to February 15, 2019.  Applicants should submit electronic copies of a letter of interest which includes details of any previous lab experiences and skills, resume, unofficial transcripts, and phone numbers and/or email addresses of at least two references. For more information, contact Rachel Fink, Chair of Biological Sciences, at rfink@mtholyoke.edu.
