The Access Ride Card Program Driver (ARC Driver) transports members of the Mount Holyoke College community around campus that qualify and register for the access ride program (as indicated by the Office of AccessAbility Services.)  This position is benefited, works the 39 week academic year, for 32.5 hours per week.  The role reports directly to the Administrative Assistant (Fleet).

CORE DUTIES:

  • Provides transportation around the MHC campus for faculty, staff and students with temporary or permanent disabilities that affect the person’s mobility.  The driver is dispatched by the Campus Police department
  • Driver may perform other tasks between transport calls
  • Occasional weekend work is required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license, an excellent driving record and experience diving a van
  • Experience driving passengers is preferred, but not required
  • Sensitivity to the needs of individuals with disabilities
  • Ability to react quickly and sensibly in the case of emergency while transporting others
  • Commitment to customer service and diplomacy; including strong interpersonal skills
  • Possesses integrity, ethics and respect for confidentiality
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, multifaceted organization
  • Able to work in a team environment, as well as individually
  • Pre-employment physical is required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally twist/bend/stoop/squat, reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, writing by hand, , lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally kneel/crawl, operate foot and/or hand controls. * - Consistent with its obligations under the law, the College will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires accommodation to perform the essential functions of his or her job.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  

  • Work is performed primarily in a van.  Assisting others while outside of the vehicle may be necessary
  • Travel on campus to departments/buildings is required
